Cotton Roads in Greece
Cotton production is one of the most important crops contributing significantly to the rural economy of Greece by supporting the development and resilience of rural communities.
It is a traditional crop connected to important moments of our history and at the same time it remains among the three most exportable agricultural products of Greece.
During the economic crisis and the covid19 pandemic of the last years, all the people involved in the value chain of cotton, from production, ginning, processing, transportation to exports, were working hard for the promotion of Greek cotton and the recognition of its qualities worldwide.
Among them, ginning mills are committed to work with cotton farmers with respect and credibility while fully comply with the requirements of quality production.
That is why Greek cotton has built a worldwide reputation and is highly valued by the cotton and textile industry.
The action “Cotton Roads” supported by the Greek ginners from the first moment and in any possible way, is an initiative that aims at exploring, the connection between art and cotton. The initiative works as a mean to send a message that Greek cotton could be a leader playing important role in all aspects of economic, social and cultural life.
Many events are organized by the NGO “Ginning of Ideas” under the “Cotton Roads” initiative targeted to different groups of people. The main event of this year is taking place in Veroia, Greece inside an old ginning mill. Selected artists had the opportunity to examine and study cotton during its amazing trip from field to final product. The artworks produced aim at sharing these experiences with farmers, rural community and the industry as a common language of this unique product.
